The Hunter - Bickley Jazz Quintet, fronted by saxophonist Chris Bickley and trombonist/vocalist Mike Hunter, was formed in 2015 for special performances (at the Little River Casino) in Manistee, MI. Accompanied by keyboard, bass and drums they took their original cue from the sound of the popular jazz group of the 70’s, the ‘Crusaders’, but also explore other sounds with combining flute or alto flute with trombone on compositions by Antonio Carlos Jobim as well as performing many jazz ‘standards’ over creative beds of sound by pianist Steve Stargardt.
From swing to funk, or latin to blues styles, Hunter - Bickley Jazz Quintet brings a fun, unique and entertaining perspective to your jazz listening experience.
I am thrilled to be able to celebrate the holidays in Traverse City with the Bay Area Music Foundation and the Bay Area Big Band. We’ll be performing my favorite Christmas music in a program we call “Home for the Holidays.” My musical journey has included work in the film, television and recording industries; a 15-year engagement as music director for Kenny Rogers; and directing and composing music for the annual Academy of Country Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards programs. Those engagements have taken me all over the world, but there’s nothing like being “Home for the Holidays” in Northern Michigan—and I invite you to share the joys of the season with us!
I’d like to invite you to join me and the Bay Area Big Band as we perform some of the amazing music of “Old Blue Eyes” - Frank Sinatra. His singing and song selection has inspired and entertained people in powerful ways - and you won’t want to miss hearing some of his favorites. - “Nice & Easy” - "New York, New York", "Mack the Knife" - and other great musical selections. I look forward to seeing you there! Rick Stewart
